University Episcopal Community

On Sunday, March 7th after the 10:15 Holy Eucharist, representatives from the University Episcopal Community will join us for a conversation. We will find out about their ministry on the University of Minnesota Campus. We will explore how St. George’s might reach out to and with them to serve the collegiate community in the name of Christ. We encourage any disciples at St. George’s with a heart for outreach to the wider community to come and join this conversation.

Minnesota FoodShare is celebrating their 28th year with their campaign in March. The slogan is “Be a Superhero in the Minnesota fight against hunger.” St. George’s will be participating by donating food and dollars toward the campaign’s 2010 goal of 12 million pounds and doars. Statewide, 2009 had an overall increase of 25% in food shelf visits which translates into over 500,000 more visits or close to 2.8 million visits. Locally, the St. Louis Park Park Emergency Program, the agency where we donate our food and dollars, has had an average of 35 visits daily. STEP’s goal for this campaign is 110,000 pounds and dollars.

paul allickIt is with a great deal of pleasure that the Discernment Team and the Vestry announce that The Rev. Paul Allick has been called to be the seventh Rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church.

A little over one year ago, Father Paul Allick came to St. George’s as Priest in Charge.  He was very down to earth and his sermons were easy to listen to  and understand.  It seemed that all of us were almost instantly comfortable with him.  He quietly went about his work which included Gospel Based  Discipleship, feast-day services, teaching, calling on the shut-ins and hospitalized, a joint confirmation class with two other Episcopal churches and facilitating a Newcomer Committee, to name just some of what he has done in his time here.  He showed us how much we can learn from the Book of Common Prayer, and he emphasized the role of the baptized and the laity in the church.  And he encouraged those who weren’t baptized or confirmed to consider taking steps to receive those sacraments which many have already done.
