Faith Formation For Adults

(God for Grownups)

The hectic pace of most people's lives leaves little time, or energy, for contemplating the deeper meanings of life. We spend so much time just trying to get everything done, that by the end of the day there's not enough energy for doing anything except worrying about all we need to do tomorrow. Yet, many people are left with a nagging voice in the back of their heads that keeps asking, "Why am I doing this? What's it all mean? Is there a way to bring new joy to my life?" These are questions best answered by exploring our spiritual nature, yet, because we can't see concrete answers in front of us, we tend to push the voice away. After all, how do we answer the questions? Where is there help for exploring them?

When life's challenges suddenly slap you in the face and force you to look at these questions, the first thing many people do is to discount churches as a place to look for answers. They think that churches are about being told what to believe, not places where questions are welcome. They have a hard time with the concept of God. Many people think of God as a "magician in the sky" and simply cannot find a way to believe. They are convinced that church means abandoning rational thought and so turn away from it when they start exploring spiritual issues. What they have are a lot of misconceptions about God and the church.

At St. George's we believe that Christ died to take away our sins, not our minds. We welcome people with questions. You'll likely find the person sitting next to you in a pew has just as many questions as you do, maybe more, and the number of questions they have has little to do with how long they've been going to church. At St. George's we encourage questions because we believe seeking greater knowledge and actively exploring spiritual issues leads to stronger faith.

We've even developed a course called God for Grownups that is designed to explore these issues. The course is designed to help both members AND people in the community delve into the spiritual questions that the little voice in the back of your head keeps asking.

If you'd like to find out more about the course, or have other questions we can help you explore, simply fill in the form below and someone will be in touch. Of course, you could always check us out on Sunday morning and ask your questions directly. You will be welcomed!
