Lent 2006

Once again, St. George's will join our Lutheran neighbors for a joint Wednesday Lenten program. We will meet one Wednesday evening in each of the five participating churches for an evening meal and a worship service with preaching. The theme for this year's series is Called to What!? Baptized for These Times. In our baptismal covenant we make several promises about how we will live our faith. How do we carry out those promises here and now, in a time of transition for our world, as well as for many of our congregations? The Schedule for the Lenten Wednesdays is:

March 8 - "Called to Community" Wooddale Lutheran Church
March 15 - "Called to Repent and Return" Ascension Lutheran Church
March 22 - "Called to Proclamation" Lutheran Church of the Reformation
March 29 - "Called to Serve" St. George's Episcopal Church
April 5 - "Called to Justice and Peace" First Lutheran Church

Each session will begin with supper at 6:00pm and continue with prayer and preaching at 7:00pm.

Sunday liturgies will focus our attention on themes of penitence and renewal. The sanctuary will be decorated with the simple Lenten Array, we will begin each service with the Penitential Order and the Decalogue, and the lectionary will tell the history of God's covenants with the faithful people.

Reaching Out
You never know when an opportunity for spiritual growth will occur or where it will come from. It might happen during an encounter at the water cooler, a sales call, on the plant floor or in the board room. I might happen while you're walking around the lake or taking a bike ride. Or, maybe you'll find a moment of grace while serving food to the homeless or pounding a nail for Habitat for Humanity. At St. George's, we have discussion groups and classes to help you understand those opportunities, opportunities to give back to the community, and fun recreational events. The Mission of
St. George's Church

To engage the Church’s mission to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ, St. George’s Parish will:

Listen
To the needs of our members and
neighbors through God.
To God through prayer, worship
and learning.

Proclaim
The gifts and dignity of all people in Christ.
The living presence of Christ in our
everyday lives.

Serve
The common good by empowering our members and neighbors to work for justice, peace and love.
God as disciples, ministers and stewards of creation.

Celebrate
The diversity and unity of many members
in one body of Christ.
The glory of God, expressions of
Christ’s love, and the gifts of the Spirit in the world.
